My Alumier Skin Peel Treatments
It’s been on my to-do list for a long time, and now one of my new year’s resolutions – to improve my skincare regime and go to a skin specialist to get advice on what products and treatments would work best for me. My skin was always in good condition when I was younger and once I hit 22 or 23, I started to develop acne and had a lot of breakouts. I have acne scars on my cheeks ever since, but luckily I can cover up these by wearing makeup using a good foundation, but it is always something I wanted to try and fix, just for myself.
So I decided that in 2018 I would treat myself to skin treatments and skin products, and in the long run it would be worth it and my skin would thank me for it in the future. So I contacted Galway Laser & Skincare Clinic on the Tuam Road (above Laura Ashley) to set up a consultation last December, which was free of charge.
For my skin consultation I met Shadi the laser technician and skin specialist. She examined my skin and gave me lots of information on what type of skin treatments I would need. The areas I wanted to improve were;
- Redness on my cheeks and uneven pigmentation
- Acne scars
Shadi recommended the Alumier facial peels, and I suggested that I would need 4 facials in total;
- 2 Alumier MD Radiant 30 Skin Peels
- 2 Alumier MD Glow Peels
Facial peels are products that are applied to the skin in order to remove dead cells and expose the fresh, softer skin below.
For my first peel I chose an evening appointment on a weekday after work as Shadi had said that I would have some redness after the peel and could not wear makeup for the rest of the evening but I would be fine to wear foundation for work the next morning, which suited me perfectly.
Since I was coming from work I was wearing make-up which Shadi removed first with the Alumier cleanser to begin the peel.
Alumier Skin Peel
The first treatment was the Enzymatic Peel which is a fruit enzyme exfoliator that combines 10% lactic acid with fruit enzymes bromelain and papain to exfoliate dead skin cells and promote skin renewal, minimizing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. The aloe vera extract in the product calms inflammation and redness, while sodium hyaluronate, vitamin B5 and gluconolactone hydrate and soften skin for a supple and radiant complexion. This was left on my skin for five minutes and it just felt a little bit tingly, mostly on my forehead and cheeks. This product was alcohol-free, fragrance-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free, mineral oil-free, and dye-free.
Next Shadi did some extractions. Extractions are performed immediately before a chemical peel because the chemical peel helps to further clean excess sebum and debris from the follicles of your skin, which results in clearance of active acne lesions and the prevention of future acne lesions from forming. This was the only part of the treatment that I found uncomfortable, but the pain was very mild.
Radiant 30 Skin Peel
The Radiant 30 is an alpha hydroxy acid resurfacing peel contains lactic acid to exfoliate dead skin cells. It is said to boost cell turnover and stimulate collagen, improving skin texture and tone. It targets multiple skin conditions, including fine lines and wrinkles, discolouration, sun damage and large pores.
This peel was left on my skin for ten minutes, I thought that I would experience more discomfort with the peel or it would feel a bit painful but I was surprised that it wasn’t painful at all, it was just a prickly sensation, again mostly on my forehead and cheeks.
Vitamin A Boost
After the Radiant 30 Skin Peel Shadi also applied a Vitamin A boost serum which is a potent and pure retinol and lactic acid resurfacing treatment. It reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation by boosting collagen production and speeding cell turnover, creating a more radiant and even-toned complexion. It is targeted at acne, hyperpigmentation and aging.
Next Shadi applied the Alumier Intensive Recovery moisturiser. When I looked in the mirror after the peel my skin was quite red especially on my cheeks, but I had no pain or discomfort other than that.
The peel can cause slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking or temporary dryness. After 24 hours I had only slight redness, (which was not noticeable when I wore foundation). I had light to moderate flaking for 3 to 7 days also. They said it may also take 2 or more treatments to target the deeper layers of skin to loosen and ‘peel’, I plan to do the four treatments to get the best results, but Shadi said I may only need one of the Alumier MD Radiant 30 Skin Peels and for the next peel I may skip straight to the Alumier MD Glow Peel, it depends on how much my skin has improved.
Post Peel Skin Treatment Tips
I was given some post-treatment Alumier products to bring home which I had to use on my skin for 5-7 days post-treatment and a specific routine to follow;
STEP 1: SensiCalm Cleanser
STEP 2: Intensive Recovery
STEP 3: Sheer Hydration Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen
STEP 1: SensiCalm Cleanser
STEP 2: Intensive Recovery
*Also to drink lots of water
This peel cost €95.
I had the peel four weeks ago today, and I think I will be going back for the next one in two weeks. I went back to Galway Laser after 7 days when I had used up all my aftercare kit products and bought the products recommended for my skin;
- Alumier Purifying Gel Cleanser
- Alumier Bright and Clear Solution
- Alumier Hydralight Moisturiser
