Competing in Miss Ireland as Miss Roscommon

I never actually did a blog post on competing in Miss Ireland and the organisers of this year’s Miss Roscommon have asked me to do an interview with me for their social media, so I thought why not just do this blog post that I have been putting off and kill two birds with one stone!

I can’t believe it has been four years since I won Miss Roscommon, I was 23 at the time! That was a busy year for me with pageants, I had just finished college and had started working in River Island in Shop Street in Galway. I was doing a lot of freelance modeling and I had won Miss GMIT and competed in Miss University Ireland earlier in the year, represented Roscommon as Miss An Post Rás in May of 2014 and I also took part in Miss Galway which was held about a month before they chose Miss Roscommon.

I got so much support from the people of Roscommon and got great coverage in the media with interviews in the Roscommon People, the Roscommon Herald and also did an interview on Irish TV at the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon. I found it quite nerve wrecking doing a TV interview but I have always told myself it’s really good to do things that scare you, especially when you are young. I think taking part in something like this helps you in the future, you might not know how or when at the time, but in my current job in GALWAYnow magazine before our annual fashion awards I had to do radio interviews with iRadio and go live on Galway Bay FM in studio (which I was still nervous about) but it was good to have a little bit of experience with interviews and public speaking and it all helps and I wouldn’t find it as nerve wrecking as I would have four years ago.

My sponsors for the event were the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon, Molloys Bakery & Fine Food Emporium, Roscommon Racecourse, and MJ Farrells Jewellers.

The day of the final was a busy day for us contestants and we were brought in in groups of 5 to be interviewed by 9 judges, one of them was former Miss Ireland Olivia Treacy.
