Miss GMIT 2014

Last April I won the title of Miss GMIT and I was completely over the moon!
I had been in college in GMIT for four years (studying a Bachelor of Business specializing in Marketing) and it was going to be my last year in college, and also my last year that I could take part in Miss University and I really wanted to represent my college and be a part of this amazing experience!
When I found out that I had won the Miss GMIT 2014 title, I was soo excited but also really nervous about the competition! I remember updating my status on Facebook straight away telling everyone the news and I was just besotted with myself :)
I remember I got my tickets in the post a week beforehand for my boyfriend and friends and the excitement really kicked in then :)
I was soo excited of the opportunities that the competition would bring for me, and really admired how well girls before had done and became so successful like Holly Carpenter!
So I arrived at the Dandelion Bar the morning of the competition on the 12th of April bare-faced and suitcase at the ready to meet all the other girls. I was really nervous about meeting everyone but I think everyone was in the same boat – nervous and excited!
So we were told what our schedule was for the day and that we were going to be doing 3 walks each; the first walk is in a cocktail dress of your choice, the second is a bikini walk and the third is your evening dress walk. So we practiced walking on the catwalk, how to walk, where to look and where the judges would be sitting.
So after that we were given our sashes (bathroom selfies had to be taken haha)
I was representing GMIT and Sarah was representing Trinity and we were also each were given gorgeous pieces of jewelry to wear for the night from Crystals and Co. to match our evening dresses :)
Here’s a pic of my jewelry for the night from Crystals and Co (it was hard to give them back I loved them 😉 )
After that we all got our hair and make-up done, ate and then got changed into our cocktail dresses and met our friends or whoever came to support us :)

I really hit it off with two of the girls Alice and Sarah and we had great craic during the day :)
I was so nervous before going on stage, I would just take a big deep breath before I went out, I had done it for the Miss Galway competition already so it wasn’t completely new to me but I was still pretty nervous, once you walk out on stage and people are cheering and adrenaline kicks in it’s so exciting!!
Here are the pictures from my walks. For each of the walks we had to walk straight to the judges table and pose in front of them before walking back.
The judges were;
Derek Daniels from Assets Modeling Agency, Nicola Hughes – Assets Model and Miss University winner 2010 and Emily MacKeogh Company Director of Crystals and Co.
For my Cocktail Walk my dress was from (of course) River Island.

For my Bikini walk my bikini was Penney’s Finest :)

My Evening Dress was from Cari’s Closet given to me on loan by Lulu from Hair Extensions Galway who also did my hair extensions for the competition :)

Miss University Competition

Overall I really enjoyed the whole Miss University experience, some people seem to have a bad impression of girls that take part in pageants or pageants altogether but for me I thought it was an amazing experience, it helped to build my confidence and made it so much easier to do presentations in college and because it was my final year we had a lot of them. After all when you’ve walked on stage in your bikini in front of hundreds of people a presentation doesn’t seem so bad 😉
I’ll be really sad to hand over the title, but it’s an amazing opportunity for young girls in college to experience and to build your confidence so I’d say go for it!
The exciting news is that Miss University are IN TALKS (fingers crossed) of teaming the colleges up with the previous winner that represented the college, to organise a heat for to crown the new 2015 winner, meaning I would get to organise the new Miss GMIT heat which I think would be really exciting and I’d love to be a part of it 😀

So fingers crossed keep an eye on my Facebook page for more, all details are below :)Here’s the video of the night by Scope Media

Here is the pic of us before we went partying for the night :)
